The End of a Chapter…

As of November 4, 2016, I completed my Child Life Practicum. While this is a bitter sweet moment, I have learned so much and will take the new knowledge with me as I apply to summer internships.

Over the past five weeks, I have learned more than I could have ever imagined. I have learned how to properly prepare children for IV starts, blood draws, PICC Line placements, CT scans, stiches and much, much more! Over these last couple of weeks, I also had the opportunity to make a difference in many patients lives, and not only that, but the parents lives as well. For example, there was a patient who had just celebrated a birthday and was not able to celebrate due to being in the hospital. Nobody likes to be in the hospital, especially on such a special day. So, I decided to decorate her room with streamers and balloons. She loved it! It is amazing how something so small could truly make someone’s day brighter and full of happiness.

I would not have had this remarkable experience if it was not for the amazing Child Life team. Because of them, I had such a well-rounded experience and gained new found knowledge in the Child Life field.

At the start of this journey, God showed me that this is where I am meant to be. This is what I am meant to do and what I am meant to be…a Certified Child Life Specialist.

Until next time!
