The road to becoming a Certified Child Life Specialist…
Hi, my name is Ashley and this is my Child Life blog Peace, Hope and Play.
From the time I was eight years old I have wanted to work in a children’s hospital. Mainly because my life was impacted through my own experiences as a patient at Riley Hospital for Children.
I have an Associate’s Degree in Child Development from Vincennes University. Currently I am attending Ball State University in Muncie, IN, where I am majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences with concentrations in: Child Development, Child Life, Family Studies, and a minor in Psychology. Years and years of college let me tell you!!! Not only am I a student, but I am currently completing my child life internship; and in July I graduate from Ball State!
I love to read, write and my faith is very important to me. To date, I have written six books and several poems and short stories. In 2014, I was published in the Tecumseh Review from Vincennes University. This book is a collection of students artwork, poems and short stories.
Goal: to become a best selling author, CCLS and an advocate for children who suffer from mental health conditions.
I have volunteer experiences (6,000+ hours) in a variety of settings, including hospitals, children with special needs, healthy children, families in need and other areas.
My overall career goal is to start a Child Life department in a children’s mental health facility.
Fun fact: I have a twin brother! He currently lives in Germany. No, he isn’t in the military (I get asked that question a lot). He completed his MA over there and decided to stay.
Grab your bags and join me as I navigate this crazy, but exciting world known as Child Life!
